This is an introductory course for anyone wanting to start coaching on the beach.

It will show you how to get started, how to take a beginner onto the sand and progress them and also how you can work with a more experienced group.

The course comes with a comprehensive beach course book, full of ideas and technical information for your coaching and will be led by one of England's top beach coaches, Denise Austin.

What the course covers

The course will prepare you to plan, organise, and deliver beach volleyball sessions in a safe and enjoyable manner to a group of adults or children.

The course will cover the specific techniques, skills, teamwork and simple tactics in preparation for playing a game.

a) How to serve; differences for the beach; tactics of serving

b) How to receive the serve, where to stand, how to pass and options for passing

c) How to set the ball and the range of sets specific to the beach

d) How to attack using hard and soft shots and how beach differs.

e) How to block & defend the court, plus defensive systems.

What are the pre-requisites for entry on the course?

Learners are required to:-

  • Be at least 16 years of age by the first day of delivery on the course.
  • Ideally possess a 1st4sport UKCC Level 1 or 2 Award in Coaching Volleyball.
  • Have experience playing beach volleyball and have an interest to move into coaching beach volleyball (No certificate until qualified)

Course Details

15th and 16th April, Oxford beach courts. 9- 5pm

  • Accommodation is not included.

Course Fees

£140 per learner (to include all course reference material).

For this you will recieve:

  • Beach Volleyball qualification certificate if you are already a UKCC qualified coach
  • A certificate of attendance if you are new to coaching
  • Beach coaching resources used on the course

Funding is available for coach development, a‘Funding Opportunities Guide for Coaches’has been developed by ScUK and a link is provided via the Volleyball England Website.

*NOTE: If you're a qualified UKCC Level 1 or 2 coach you will receive an accreditation certificate from Volleyball England. If you are not yet a qualified coach, you will receive a certificate of completion to show that you are able to lead sessions on the beach. You will be accredited with your award once you have gained the a UKCC Level 1 or 2 award.

What should I bring with me to the course?

  • Appropriate clothing for beach practice.
  • A pen and notebook

How can I book onto a course?

A national list of courses is available on the Volleyball England Course Finder section of the website. All courses are run by 1st4sport Recognised Centres of which Volleyball England is one; and you must apply directly to that centre using their application process. This information is provided via the Course Finder.
